goodbye, max

we sold our maxima, and i am getting all nostalgic about it. so just a fair warning: this will be a long, rambling, sentimental, silly post about (of all things) a CAR.

it's just a car, but- man! it's been such a good car!
i believe we got this car for me just a year or two after we got married. it was my very first car, and when we were shopping i remember mr. o seeing it and wanting to drive it, but i hated it. i hated the color, the looks didn't do anything for me, and yeah, i think it was mostly just the color. gold- blech.
but, it drove like a champ, with lots of power and even i had to admit it was fun to drive. also, it had a timing chain, instead of a belt and that meant you didn't have to get into the engine to replace it. and, it had a sunroof & leather seats, which were my top criteria. and the bose stereo system was a biggie for mr. o.
i clearly remember saying something hissy like "fine, we can buy it but i'm not going to like it"!

but, oh. my first car! of course i grew to love that car. even the color.

we moved halfway across the country in it- exactly. kansas.
it survived some killer hail storms, with only minor scarring.
it has been so dependable.
we've brought each of our new baby boys home from the hospital in this car.
it's seen many a truck of mr. o's come and go.
i remember working when i was pregnant with miles, and on my payday i would write out a check for the amount i got paid and take it to the bank on my lunch break and pay down the loan on max. it was so satisfying to finally pay it off! (and that was how we eased from two incomes to one, by using mine to get out of debt.)
now the leather seats are cracked, some of the stereo buttons are falling off, and i'm afraid the buyer will just see these flaws and dismiss where this car has BEEN and what it has meant to our little family...
no one will ever love you like i do, max.
farewell!

p.s. i already miss watching your old-school odometer tick over the miles. these new fangled digital ones just aren't as cool in my book!

I would always get so excited when I saw that car pull in our driveway. And how fun it was to have it just two driveways down from ours, those were the days:) Thanks for the great memories max!

I know the nostalgic feeling. When we sold my Camry a few years ago I actually had tears. It was time for us to get a van too because we were having baby #3 and the miles were really racking up. You will love your new van. Enjoy having all that space~
