police party part one: invitations

i had originally planned on writing the details of the party on the balloons themselves, so the recipients could blow them up to see the who/what/when/where info, but we ran into a few problems. first, the marker smeared off too easily, and second, once the balloons were deflated (after we wrote on them) they didn't go back to their original size. instead they were all stretched out and wrinkly.

so we scrapped that idea and just wrote the info on a card on the back of the invitation. we cut out the initials of each of the six kids we invited, tied a balloon on the front, and miles chose which police stickers to put on each one.

we ended up making one for him, too, so we can save it to remember the party by. he was very involved in the whole process, from planning the party, choosing the favors, and helping me make the decorations. for weeks he would go through and name each person we were inviting, one at a time, and then say what favors they were going to get. we talked about the party all the time- it was so much fun to anticipate!
we had some trouble narrowing down the list of who to invite. do we include his whole primary class? the neighbors? cousins? our friends' kids? it could get really crowded really fast, so we just chose the closest neighbors and then a few of his good friends.

it was perfect.

so bright, happy and cute! I love the idea of writing it on the balloon too though, too bad it didn't work.
