fourth of july 2012

even though it wasn't settled till the last minute, we all ended up going to the parade on the fourth of july. it was originally going to be just miles and i, but happily we all went together, and met up with lots of my family, besides! i loved seeing my boys enjoy the parade!

here's my sweet leo in his adorable vintage sailor suit! i think he looks so festive and handsome.
there's something about a parade that just makes the holiday for me. we didn't stay the whole time, but i am so glad we went.

leo's cousin brighton has a matching sailor suit, too! we never got a chance to get any really great pictures of them together in their outfits, but it was fun to see them together. so cute!

love this float. there were lots of fun things that my boys loved in the parade- police motorcycles, civil war military guys, indian dancers, and patriotic floats to name a few.

after the parade we went to a family lunch with mr. o's family. it was great to see everyone, and have time to play and visit. as we were driving to ryan & jen's house, finn asked "is this the way to japan?"
(since he knows they live in japan, but apparently forgot they have a house in utah, too!)

they had to remove a birds nest (with babies!) from above their porch, since it was making a mess, and relocate it to this blue bucket temporarily.

we had fun watching the babies and making sure all four of them were there. leo wanted to hold one so bad! can you blame him? that little guy is cute!

all the boys fell asleep on the way home- i wish i could've, too!

but i ended up driving around to maximize their nap time instead.
we skipped the fireworks and headed to bed early. the boys were oblivious to the fact that they were missing anything- and they got a mini firework show a few nights before from their uncle forrest, anyways!
what's your favorite thing to do on the fourth?

That sounds SO wonderful!!! I love going to parades too-- the one I'm guessing you went to is hands down the best around here. I also like family picnics and fireworks...

This year we did none of the above. It was a bust of a 4th. Waaa!!! So I was glad to hear/see yours-- makes me feel like the holiday maybe really happened...

We (Matthew, Norah, and I) did the balloons this year and had that breakfast at my house with my parents, my sister and her family, and Dave's dad. Then we had a bbq here with some friends that night. And a few fireworks... I took a much needed mid-day nap. Norah hated the balloons at first (I think she was scared) and kept whining to go home. But after a few minutes she loved it.
