quilt inspiration

 so, miles is really in need of a quilt for his bed, and i want to make it.


i stayed up waaaaay too late seeking some inspiration! he wants a military type quilt, with camouflage fabrics, and i wasn't feeling too inspired, until i figured i could work in a chevron pattern! i've been wanting to do a zig-zag patterned quilt for awhile now, so maybe this will satisfy that little itch!

i love the dark, bold colors of this quilt! makes me want to include a bunch of solid colors- khaki, olive drab, etc. in miles' quilt.

and in case miles doesn't go for the chevron idea (but i have a feeling he will) i really liked the looks of this quilt as well. we are planning on incorporating an ever-growing collection of patches that he has, and this would be easy to work those into.

 i definitely want the pattern of the quilt to be chevrons as opposed to zig-zags, so i loved how this quilt broke up the stripes. just forgo the girly colors!

 maybe something more like this? i like the idea of a single row of chevrons, and the patches would look cool along one side.

 but then i really dig this pattern! it's called chasing chevrons, and i think it's rad. i would probably simplify it a bit for the sake of the patches.

 i like this idea, but i would definitely vary the stripe widths a lot. this is just a bit too neat for my tastes!

i also like the chunky size of these chevrons. and i have to admit the colors are speaking to me! i love brights on white.

i'm already inspired to start graphing out my own pattern loosely based on these. maybe i will actually start this quilt once life settles a bit and i get some more pressing things done!

my hope is that it will be mature + simple enough that he won't grow out of it, and can take it with him to college. and with that in mind, i am planning on discussing the pattern and fabric choices with him, and then going to the store on my own to prevent any meltdowns over likely sightings of cheesy/gaudy/fleece/etc military or patriotic inspired fabrics that are bound to be spotted!
